Rio Alto Mining Limited is committed to operate all its existing and future projects in an environmentally responsible manner. Rio Alto will evaluate the existing environmental conditions at each site and strive to minimize and mitigate environmental impacts of exploration, mining and processing operations by applying prudent design and operating practices and also by educating the employees and contractors who work at these facilities.
Rio Alto is committed to do the following:
- Comply with applicable environmental laws and regulations of the countries and regions in which we operate;
- Explore, design, construct, operate and close mining and processing operations by utilizing effective and proven practices that minimize potentially harmful environmental impacts;
- Educate employees regarding environmental matters and promote employee participation in minimizing environmental impacts;
- Promote, facilitate, and sustain a company culture where employees are encourage to perform their daily activities in an environmentally responsible manner and are motivated to continually investigate methods and procedures that offer further reductions in environmental impacts;
- Conduct regular reviews and report findings to management and the Board of Directors to ensure complete and transparent corporate wide knowledge of Rio Alto's environmental performance;
- Proactively address potential concerns of stakeholders and affected communities;
- Ensure that emergency response plans are in place at each operation to protect against unforeseen events that may harm the environment;
- Ensure that any event that violates environmental compliance is immediately mitigated and reported in a diligent manner;
- Develop, operate and audit environmental management systems at Rio Alto's operations that meet or exceed those in use by other peer companies, and
- Prominently display and promote this policy to Rio Alto's employees and contractors and share it with the public, stakeholders, and nearby communities.
Health & Safety
Rio Alto Mining Limited is committed to protecting the health and safety of its employees and contractors at its exploration properties, development projects and mining operations. Rio Alto will strive to provide a safe and healthy workplace for its employees and contractors and is committed to do the following:
- Promote health and safety on and off the job;
- Provide employees with the training and tools to work safely;
- Comply with applicable laws and regulations of the countries in which we operate;
- Adhere to sound and effective health and safety practices;
- Provide a safe work environment by minimizing and/or eliminating hazards;
- Educate the workforce to the potential hazards of their job;
- Strive for and encourage continuous improvement in all aspects of health and safety for our employees and contractors;
- Pursue and implement accident prevention programs;
- Ensure that first aid and emergency response plans are in place at each operation;
- Require that employees perform their duties in the safest manner possible;
- Continue to educate and train employees about job hazards;
- Ensure accident reporting is completed in a diligent manner;
- Remediate all identified health and safety findings promptly;
- Utilize a key corporate oversight position to conduct regular reviews and report findings to Rio Alto management and the Board of Directors to ensure that company health/safety policies and procedures are being adhered to;
- Ensure that mechanisms are in place that promote employee participation in the development of health and safety standards and that these employees take ownership of their health and safety responsibilities;
- Develop, operate and audit health and safety management systems at Rio Alto´s operations that meet or exceed those in use by other peer mining companies; and
- Make this policy available to Rio Alto's employees, contractors, stakeholders, and the public.
